Emergency Siren
What do the different city sirens signals mean?
Kress sirens are operated by the Fire Department or City Office of the Mayor. They have three (3) different signals you should know and be aware of:
- Tornado/Storm Warning:
- Long Steady siren in one tone for three (3) minutes.
- Fire:
- Alternation high/low tone(s) for approximately three (3) minutes.
- Attack/Defense Alert:
- Waving tone of short blast for three (3) minutes.
Emergency Evacuation Plan for Kress, Texas
Purpose: This plan outlines the evacuation procedures for the residents of Kress in the event of a fire threat, utilizing school resources and directing evacuees toward Tulia or Plainview, Texas, based on the severity and direction of the threat. 2. Communication
Alerts: Residents will be notified via local radio, social media, and the Kress ISD communication system.
Direct Messages: Parents and guardians will receive texts/calls regarding evacuation procedures.
3. Evacuation Routes
Evacuation to Tulia, TX:
Use FM 145 north to access Hwy 87, then proceed towards Tulia.
Evacuation to Plainview, TX:
Use FM 145 south to access Hwy 87, then proceed towards Plainview.
4. School Resources
Kress High School Gymnasium: Designated as the primary evacuation center.
-Transportation:
- Buses will be deployed for evacuation from the school to Tulia or Plainview based on the threat level.
- Staff will assist in nighttime evacuations as needed.
5. Evacuation Procedure
Step 1: Alert and Assess
The principal and emergency management team will assess the fire threat and notify local authorities.
Step 2: Notification of Evacuation
All residents will be notified through:
- Text messages
- Social media postings
- Local radio announcements
Step 3: Evacuation of School and Community
Gathering Location: Kress High School Gymnasium will serve as the gathering point for evacuation.
Transportation:
- Buses will be stationed at the gymnasium to transport evacuees.
- Prioritize students, staff, and vulnerable populations (elderly, disabled).
Step 4: Departing
- Evacuation to Tulia or Plainview will depend on Sheriff/Fire Department instructions.
- All evacuees should take personal essentials (medications, ID, important documents) when boarding buses.
6. Post-Evacuation Procedures
1. Check-In Point:
- Upon arrival in Tulia or Plainview, evacuees will report to the designated Red Cross or community center for check-in and further information.
2. Communication with Family:
- Residents are encouraged to use their cell phones to notify family members of their safe arrival.
3. Emergency Shelter:
- Shelters will be established in Tulia and Plainview for those needing temporary housing.
7. Special Considerations
-Medically Fragile Residents: Designated personnel will assist individuals with medical needs throughout the evacuation process.
- Pets: Residents should take pets if possible. Transportation arrangements will need to be made for those unable to evacuate with their pets.
